Is professional house cleaning worth it in BC?

Start with a price for the cleaning you need. Then use one visit to find out whether it makes enough difference to book again.

Decide what you want off your list

Name the work you keep putting off. “I want a cleaner home” is hard to judge afterwards. “I don’t want to spend Sunday cleaning the bathrooms and mopping” gives you something to compare with the service checklist.

Use the quote for your home and selected extras, not a headline starting price. For recurring cleaning, look at the visits on your calendar as well as the price of each visit. Every two weeks is not the same as twice a month; some months will contain an additional appointment.

Choose a spend you can comfortably repeat. If the quote does not fit, consider occasional help rather than stretching your budget to make a recurring plan work. A one-time clean can be worthwhile without becoming a standing expense.

Copy these prompts into a note or print the worksheet. You do not need to share personal budget details with anyone.

Before the visit

Count only the work covered by the booking. If you normally spend part of the weekend doing laundry and putting belongings away, do not count all of that as time the cleaner will save. Separate daily tidying from the kitchen, bathroom and floor work you are handing over.

After the visit

• Were the selected jobs completed to the agreed checklist? ______.
• How much extra preparation or follow-up did I need? ______.
• Which cleaning jobs did I no longer have to do? ______.
• Would I choose the same clean again at that price? ______.

Use your own time spent on preparation and follow-up, not the cleaner’s time in your home, when assessing what the visit freed up. You are evaluating a finished set of tasks, not trying to match someone else’s cleaning speed.

Choose what happens after the first visit

If the clean removes the work you wanted gone and the spend feels comfortable, consider recurring cleaning. Choose the interval around how your home is used and the upkeep you want to handle between visits, not simply the biggest advertised saving.

If you mainly needed help through a busy week or a move, keep it as a one-time service. If you enjoyed the result but it did not free up enough time, look at why: was the main problem cleaning, or was it organising belongings and laundry? Paying for more cleaning will not automatically solve a different household job.
